Tonight’s episode of “American Song Contest” on NBC is another round of qualifiers.
Last week, Jordan Smith of Kentucky, the winner of season 9 of “The Voice” was chosen by the jury to advance in the competition. Tonight, viewers will learn with three other contestants that are moving on based on their votes and the votes of jury members.
“American Song Contest” airs at 8 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022 and is hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg.
On March 21, the jury chose Hueston from Rhode Island to move on to the semifinals. He sang “Held On Too Long.” The other three moving on with him are AleXa from Oklahoma, Christian Pagán from Puerto Rico and Michael Bolton from Connecticut.
The live singing competition features 56 artists representing the 50 states, five U.S. territories and the capital, Washington, D.C. competing to win the country’s vote for the best hit song, NBC said.
The artists include “undiscovered talent, up-and-coming new artists, and rising stars to established and legendary icons.
“An incredible solo artist, duo, group or band will represent each location and perform a new original song, celebrating the depth and variety of different styles and genres across America.”
The show is based on “Eurovision Song Contest,” which NBC said has been “organized for 65 years by the European Broadcasting Union and watched by 200 million viewers annually …”
The competition consists of three rounds as the artists compete in a series of qualifying rounds, followed by the semifinals and the ultimate grand final where one state or territory will win.
A national jury of 56 music experts choose one winner from each qualifying round. Then viewers have until Wednesday morning to vote on the NBC website or app or TikTok to choose another three to move on. Those three artists will be selected by the jury and viewers and announced during the next week’s show.
During qualifying, 11 or 12 artists will perform each week. During the semifinals on April 25 and May 2, 10 artists will perform.
The grand final will be held on May 9 with the top 10 artists.
