How To Celebrate Cherry Blossom Season In Northern Virginia This Year – Forbes

Don’t forget—it’s also cherry blossom season across the river in Northern Virginia.
While all the attention usually ends up on Washington, D.C. during cherry blossom season, there are still plenty of themed events and hotel packages available just across the Potomac River in Northern Virginia, particularly in Old Town Alexandria, Arlington, Pentagon City and Tysons Corner. Here’s where to celebrate the season just outside the District of Columbia.
Not only can you take a scenic water taxi ride between Old Town Alexandria and The Wharf in Washington, D.C. with City Cruises by Hornblower (from $23 one-way or $39 round-trip), there’s also a springtime cruise available on weekends from Old Town Alexandria to Georgetown, featuring Washington’s monuments and plenty of cherry blossom views from the water (from $26 for a 45-minute one-way cruise or $42 for a 90-minute round-trip cruise).
Back on dry land, landlubbers can take a three-hour guided tour of the cherry blossoms through East Potomac Park with Pedego Electric Bikes Alexandria through April 17 (from $69 per e-bike rental). Those looking for a more traditional bike ride can rent regular bicycles from Unlimited Biking in Old Town Alexandria—prices vary based on hours rented, while e-bike rental packages are also available—or head to the District of Columbia location for Unlimited Biking’s two-hour guided tour through East Potomac Park and along the National Mall and Tidal Basin (from $54 per adult).
Stop by the Torpedo Factory Art Center, located along the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria, Wednesday through Sunday between April 2 and May 1 to check out the cherry blossom artwork created by the many artists who use the site as their art studios. On April 10, following the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, D.C., head over to see art demonstrations and a special performance by taiko drum group Nen Daiko.
Head across the river—about 15 minutes from Downtown D.C. by car or via the Orange or Silver Metro lines—to The Commentary Social House in Arlington. Besides offering happy hour deals during the week and brunch on weekends, now through April 17, you can also taste its specialty cherry blossom season cocktail, the Cherry Rose, which features a refreshing mix of St. Germain elderflower liqueur, Green Hat gin, Luxardo maraschino liqueur, rose water and lemon juice.
There are so many places in Alexandria’s Old Town to enjoy Insta-worthy springtime views, whether you’re admiring the new neon pink “I Love You” art installation along the waterfront—on display through November 22, 2022—or capturing the cherry blossoms among the city’s colorful homes (try the scenic 100 block of Wolfe Street). Many doorways throughout Old Town are decked out with springtime decorations, while other standby places to see seasonal blooms include the Carlyle House Gardens, King Street Gardens Park’s Tricorn Topiary Hat, the courtyard of Christ Church and lower Duke Street, home of the city’s pink weeping cherry trees.
