Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world
Atletico Madrid’s success in La Liga has been dampened a bit by its play in other competitions this season. Atletico tries to change that narrative on Tuesday in the second leg of its UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match against Manchester United. Los Colchoneros were bounced in two domestic cups and managed to advance to Champions League knockout stage after three Group B losses, but a win on Tuesday means they survive and advance. You can see which side prevails when you stream the match live on Paramount+.
Kickoff from Old Trafford in Manchester, England is set for 4 p.m. ET. Manchester United is the +121 favorite (risk $100 to win $121) on the 90-minute money line in the latest Atletico Madrid vs. Manchester United odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Atletico is the +250 underdog, while a draw is +220. The over-under for total goal scored is 2.5. Tuesday’s match will be streamed live on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.

Before you tune in to Tuesday’s match, you need to see the Manchester United vs. Atletico Madrid picks from SportsLine’s European soccer insider Martin Green. After working in the sports betting industry for several years, Green became a professional sports writer and handicapper and has covered the game worldwide. Since then, his European soccer picks have been spot-on. Green has generated well over $37,000 for $100 bettors since the 2017-18 season, and he has his finger on the pulse of the game all over the globe.
For Manchester United vs. Atletico Madrid, Green is backing both teams to score at -105 odds. Turmoil seems to be building behind the scenes with Manchester United between some of its stars and interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Meanwhile, Atletico has won six of its last seven La Liga matches by a combined score of 17-7, primarily due to young forward Joao Felix, who has scored five goals in his last five games.
One of those goals came in the reverse fixture against Manchester United, and the Red Devils have seen their defense decline in recent outings. However, United should be able to create plenty of opportunities in front of goal as well, while Atletico contends with injuries to primary defenders Mario Hermoso (groin) and Sime Vrsaljko (undisclosed). Atletico Madrid has already far exceeded the number of goals it conceded from last season, so more holes on the back line doesn’t bode well for its chances to fix that issue on Tuesday.
« [Atletico] has conceded 36 goals in 28 league games so far, compared to just 25 in 38 matches last season, » Green told SportsLine. « United should be close to full strength for this game, and it has the attacking quality to exploit Atlético’s defensive weaknesses. Yet it has also been conceding goals at an alarming rate this season, so Atlético Madrid should also get on the score sheet. »
