Opinion | How to handle oil shortages – The Washington Post

Regarding the March 7 letter “Think long-term on energy”:
Our two profound oil shortages were in World War II and the 1970s. My experience during those times indicates using gas ration certificates (World War II) beats letting people fend for themselves (1970s).
My suggestion is that our gas reserves be used only for extreme shortages when our society is under pressure. Extreme oil shortages met with reserves and rationing by our federal government will make sense to gasoline customers.
